Naturally, there were Brazilian fighters in every bout, but that only served to excite the on-site fans even more. The same Marquez will face a new and improved Pacquiao for third fight

Juan Manuel Marquez

Age has nothing to do with it. Even at 38 years of age, Dinamita remains a sensational fighter who shows no signs of the wear and tear that sometimes plagues boxers who are in such an advanced stage of their careers. Marquez’s age will not be a factor in his fight against Pacquiao, but the latter’s superior skills will be. The Deuce, Reasons To Love Boxing…and an Ice Cream Scooper

By Alec Kohut

My most lasting memory of the 2011 season of ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights” will undoubtedly be that of an old-fashioned ice cream scooper. As a hematoma swelled over Pawel Wolak’s right eye in his bout with Delvin Rodriquez, an Enswell looked like a postage stamp on an envelope and was no match for the almost grotesque swelling. One round later, Team Wolak was seen pressing an old-fashioned metal ice cream scooper to Wolak’s eye in a futile attempt to control the swelling. Through it all, Wolak fought on, the only way he knows, straight ahead. Continue reading “The Deuce, Reasons To Love Boxing…and an Ice Cream Scooper” »

ORTIZ DOWNPLAYS BACK SORENESS, SAYS MAYWEATHER’S IN FOR TROUBLE

WBC welterweight titleholder Victor Ortiz and manager Rolando Arrellano told RingTV.com on Friday that the fighter did not have a back injury. He he simply experienced soreness and took Thursday off from training to receive a massage and to otherwise recuperate.

“It was just that we’re working extremely hard and we’ve been in camp for about six weeks,” said Arrellano. “So Victor’s sore because of the intense training, and he gets massages and that’s it. Yet all of a sudden it turns into a back injury to create a sense of panic? It’s just B.S.”

“The coach [trainer Danny Garcia] gave him a day off so that he can get him a massage and to rest. Somehow it was leaked out of our camp that he had a back injury. Victor has got no back injury. This fight is not in jeopardy and Victor is in the gym today [Friday] and working out and sparring.”
