Pacquiao squares up to tax man

World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao says he intends to fight criminal charges that he failed to submit the proper tax documents for his earnings from boxing matches and his many commercial endorsements.

The eight-time world champion, who is also a politician, could face up to two years in jail if found guilty, but officials from the Philippines Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) said the matter could be easily resolved if Pacquiao submits the proper documents.

Pacquiao’s lawyers said the boxer — who was in the United States training for a fight with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez when the BIR issued a subpoena last month — was not given enough time to comply with the request.

Pacquiao declared assets at the end of 2010 of 1.13 billion pesos ($26.3 million) and no liabilities, making him the country’s wealthiest lawmaker. He told a press conference on Monday that he had been marked out for harassment by the BIR.

BIR is gona get sue for millions of dollars. if Manny really did tried to evade taxes, he would of not donate money to charities out of good faith.

I agree with Manny, fight the BIR. This is simply harassment. Even politically motivated. However, I just read that you (MP) mentioned the reason for this harassment is because you did not sign the CJ Impeachment. I do not think the government would do that to you, knowing your status and fair play. Whoever adviced you on implicating or connecting the BIR to the CJ Corona case is misleading you and providing an unsound advice. Look deeper and beyond Losares, like who his friends are and who are his benefactors. This issue with him could be leading to your planned Gubernatorial aspirations. Good luck on your training, and please Find a solution to fix your leg-cramps. God bless!

When I paid my income tax in 2000, I paid more than P500,000. Yet at that time, Erap and his wife (who is a doctor) had published their combined gross income at slightly more than P500,000. I only have one house in a modest subdivision in Santa Rosa, Laguna yet Erap is known to have so many huge mansions. I only worked as an executive in a Japanese electronics company where I derived my income. Everybody knows that Erap should have more income to maintain his huge mansions, not counting his numerous families yet BIR has not spoken until now. Manyy Pacquiao is being politically harassed.
