ound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao who was voted “Fighter of the Year” for the third time last year as well as “Fighter of the Decade” by the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America says he is “happy that Sergio Martinez won the award this year.”

Pacquiao told the Inquirer “its much better that we have someone else winning the award. I’m happy because it’s not nice if we win it all the time. We need to give others a chance. I am happy for him.”

Pacquiao who is known for his graciousness and humility said “I have no problem at all. It’s not that I am tired of winning awards but at least others also get a chance to win “Fighter of the Year”.

A national sporting hero in the Philippines and the fighter Top Rank promoter Bob Arum describes as a crossover star, Pacquiao said the choice of Martinez was “good for the sport.”

Pacquiao said his concern has always been “not only to win my fights but to make the fans happy, to have them satisfied with the result and my performance.
