Four time world champion Rafael Marquez (40-7, 38ko’s) has thrilled boxing fans around the world with his heart and knowledge of the sweet science. Forever remembered for his trilogy with Israel Vazquez, Rafael Marquez is not finished just yet; soon he hopes to catch Juan Manuel Lopez (31-1, 28KO) for another great bout that will no doubt thrill fans.
With his shoulder completely healed, Rafael, the younger brother of Juan Manuel Marquez, is excited to get back in action. He took some time with MP8.PH today to support Juan and catch us up on his career.
Rafael what were your feelings when you defeated Israel Vazquez for the WBC title last year after two defeats?
“It was a great satisfaction to me and I was happy to confirm that changing my trainer was the best decision that I could make.”
What have you learned out of your two difficult losses in recent bouts?
“The first loss I was injured and the second one I don’t think that I lost, I don’t understand the judges criteria. Anyway I learned that you have to prepare very hard and be ready for everything.”
What are you going to do differently next year if you face Juanma again?
“Since my shoulder has healed this time I will chase him and I’m going to get him.”
Coming from such a great boxing family what has been your inspiration over your great career?
“My inspiration is the thought of being 4 times Champion of the World as well as to give my family the satisfaction and make them proud. I want to give this gift to all my fans, my country and my team.”
How are you supporting brother in this rematch with Manny Pacquiao?
“I’m sending him the good vibes and wishing him well.”
I won’t ask you whom will win the bout, but why do you feel Juan will defeat Manny?
“Because Juan Manuel has the strategy and the Boxing style to beat Manny, he knows Manny’s style very well.”
Are you working out with him or in his camp to assist?
”No”
Can you tell us what your greatest memories will be when your superb career is concluded?
“My best memories are each time that I became a World Champion.”
For the fans, what is your biggest hobby between fights?
”Shopping and playing with my kids.”
Do you have any special thoughts for fans to end our interview?
“Always pursue your dreams and work as hard as you can for them.”
Ciao!
