Manny Pacquiao was up and back at training this morning at 6am after spending the weekend with family in Manila for his daughter’s birthday and today he decided to run the hills of Baguio. He was in a great mood and it showed in his running.

With Buboy Fernandez and Alex Ariza standing by,  watching and guaranteeing everything was developing according to schedule Ariza stated, “I like the champ’s intensity and thinks Manny is right on schedule.”

However, Alex advised Pacquiao that it is time to stop running so many hills and long distance training. According to the strength and conditioning coach they need to focus more on high intensity interval training. Alex feels it is the hills and the long distance running that bothers the Pacquiao’s legs and makes him begin to cramp. Alex likes the HIIT training to build the muscles in the legs. Alex stated today in the gym;

“Boxing is NOT a long distance sport. We need to train accordingly.”

Manny Pacquiao went through a very long shoulder stretching and muscle building routine with Ariza to focus on old shoulder injuries that were a problem prior to Ariza and because of these particular stretches and strength building techniques Alex has been able to strengthen the smaller muscles in the shoulder and since then Pacquiao has had no shoulder issues. He has actually punched harder the last four fights as a result.

When the shoulder routine was done and Manny’s warm-ups complete Freddie Roach took over training and entered the ring. Assisted by Ariza, Roach donned his Green Wildcard gear and Buboy assisted Manny with his gloving up for another session of mitt work .

Today was all about the strategy needed to defeat Juan Marquez. Manny and Freddie have about 5 separate strategies to victory and they are perfecting every one of them. To  two were in perfect harmony today, timing is on with the speed and power of Pacquiao growing more incredible with every passing day of training.

Marquez will have difficulty handling the power Pacquiao is showing as of today and he will only get stronger

. There was more Team Pacquiao sparring with 4 knockdowns total but the funniest moment was when one of the guys picked himself off the canvas, as Manny was giving him a ten count.

Manny asked the guy are you alright and the guy said, “Yes.”

Manny ordered back

“Box”

Motioning the two fighters to fight the boxer told Manny-

“No, No. Wait a minute”

Manny asked. “Why?”

The boxer answered “Because I am dizzy- I got head-butted,”

Manny responded, “No, you got hit.”

I wonder what the citizens of Baguio thought today watching the Pacquiao security team duck walking through the streets. Very funny video from the MP8 crew today as we get back to business in Baguio with only 5 days left to a return to L.A.  At that point we will start counting down the days until the November 12th showdown.

Ciao!
