Interview: Lumacad looking for redemption!

Peter Maniatis manager for Fernando Lumacad spoke with MP8.ph via email today regarding his 25 year old fighter that will appear on the undercard of Pacquiao-Maarquez III.

Lumacad returns to fight in the US, after a 3^rd.round stoppage by Jorge Arce in New Jersey in 2009.

Fernando faces Joseph Rios (10-5-2, 4ko’s) of San Antonio, Texas , who is coming off a 3-0-1 streak since October of 2010.

Peter, could you give readers some background on Fernando Lumacad?

“Fernando Lumacad is trained at the sandman gym in General Santos by Jim Manangquil he is 25 years old and a leader of the sandman gym full of young boxers… Lumacad lives at the gym with 6 other boxers”,

What is his life like in the Philippines?

“Fernando lives at the sandman gym and is the captain of the gym with the young boxers; he is a very humble likable person,”

How big an adjustment is it for him to return to US to to fight on the undercard of  Pacquiao Marquez III

“l spoke with Jim Managquil when he and Fernando arrived in Los Angeles and Lumacad was not use to the cooler weather and felt cold but he has adjusted now to the cooler climate”  Lumacad has been training at the Wild Card gym and sparring Alan Tanada”

All eyes will be on boxing in las Vegas this weekend, has Fernando expressed a desire to shine in front of all the media here.

‘Yes Fernando is keen to show the Filipino people that he is the real deal and his performance with Arce was just a bad night for him…. “l am sure Lumacad will fight with spirit and will not let the Filipino boxing public down”

The first time US readers saw Fernando he was losing a tough bout to Arce,

What does this return to the US mean to Fernando?

“The Arce fight l felt that Lumacad was boxing well in the first two rounds but got caught with a bomb of a right hand that could have knocked out most opponents in the 3rd round, What Lumacad has learnt from his loss to Arce is not relax at any moment in a fight with a World Champion like Arce and keep his hands up and chin down”

How has Fernando improved since this his loss?

“Well Fernando is a lot more mature now as a boxer and he has changed trainers from Ken Smith to now the Sandman gym… let’s see if he has improved time will tell, but l am confident you will see a different Lumacad on Saturday night”

What is Fernando’s relationship with Manny Pacquiao and MP promotion’s like

“Manny Pacquiao is the people champion he has given Lumacad a big chance to prove himself again to the Filipino boxing public and the whole boxing world here,”

“Manny is a giving a fellow Gensan boxer a big opportunity and a big thank you to MP promotions for giving Lumacad a fight on his under card and supporting a Lumacad who has been living in Manny’s house in Los Angeles preparing for his bout ” and Dexter Tan has been a huge help getting things done for sandman gym in Los Angeles,”

Is there an opponent set yet for bout in General Santos City in January?

“No opponent has been set for Lumacad for January till after his fight on the weekend”

“Yes l would like to say to the Filipino boxing fans please give Lumacad another chance he will not let you down this time, he has the spirit and desire to succeed”
