Official Statement By Manny Pacquiao - “To the gay community, I apologize,”

“To the gay community, I apologize,”

“What I said is a reporter asked me about gay marriage …. I am against gay marriage, but I’m not condemning gays,”

“I have family — a cousin — who’s gay, and friends too. I’m just against gay marriage. I don’t even want to talk about the issue, but I was asked about it, so I gave my opinion.”

“I’m against same-sex marriage, but I’m not condemning you. My favorite verse is ‘Love one another as you love yourself. Love your neighbor.’ So I love everybody!”

All of this stemmed from an early article by an Examiner Blogger that has apologized for the confusion this has caused.

Manny…I don’t think you really have to apologize and at the same time we know your not hateful to anyone or any group. Continue to speak the Truth because the Truth (Bible) does not need to be defended….

” Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.” - Psalm 89:14-15

“Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.” - Psalm 25:4-5

My prayers to you and your family….

Why, oh why did you apologize?

Not only did you do nothing to apologize about, since you are a Christian, but you may not be familiar with this version of a standard American con. Someone says something perfectly reasonable. Then some other people who believe they have a special entitlement bark and whine.

Being a decent fellow, you then make an apology, basically because you dislike hurting other people’s feelings, no matter how wrongheaded they may be. You will discover soon that you are not really forgiven-ever. They will try to make you hold your tongue forever and may occasionally try to pull your leash. And all for making a foundationally true statement.

You are a warrior, man. Stick to your guns.

Mr. Pacquiao,

I have been the cantor at my large Catholic Church in So Cal for 30 years now. We have a gay and lesbian ministry and many of the key participants in our liturgy each week are gay and lesbian. Many mainstream Christian denominations have declared their support for gay and lesbian couples and WANT to be able to perform marriage ceremonies for them. Why do you get to decide what those churches can and cannot do? Let each church decide for itself.

You had to reach back to the old testament to find anything to support your hatred. Why? Because Jesus never said one thing about gay people. Nothing. He DID, however, have a lot to say about divorce. Why aren’t you ranting about that? Could it possibly be because, at least according to rumors, you are having an affair? I don’t know you so I have no idea if rumors about that are true or not. It’s between you and God, just as my relationships are between me and God. I pay taxes and contribute to society just like you. It should be no concern of yours if I marry a man. If you are right then God will deal with me. I know in my heart God will bless me, regardless of what you and others say and do.

Here is a letter written to Dr Laura when she spouted hatred. It points out the problem you face when trying to quote Leviticus to condemn gay people.

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted fan,
Jim

Four gay men were just hung publicly in Iran for being who they are. If people are allowed to call for the death of gay people in this country, it could happen here. I will do everything in my power to prevent that.

I will pray for you.

With the respect you don’t seem to have for others,
Johnny Schaefer

Mr. Manny Pacman, I believe your stand, God made only male and female and marriage is for man and women only.
at start I thought you are one with Illuminati because of your success, but then you are the man doing thing right putting the risk of your own famine, dignity and family name.

God bless you and continue serving God.

Never forget you have many people who support you. You will always be a champ for more reasons than just boxing. I don’t agree with your stance on same-sex marriage; however, that does not deter me from supporting you in your ambitions and particularly as you advance in your boxing career. I wait for the day to watch you take down my fellow “American Citizen”. Forever a fan - Team Manny!

Manny you dont need to apologize coz you didnt do anything wrong… the gay community needs to stop bullying you…… dont mind these haters .. they are just jealous of your success… Manny world #1 Pound for pound KING !!!!!

Comment by Minerva Holman — May 17, 2012 @ 6:14 pm

Manny,

You are just honest in making comment in what you believe, because you are not alone, I too does not agree in gay marriage but I do not discriminate against them. I treat them fair just like any other person. Always remember Jesus was condemned to death even though he did not commit any crime, so we are in the era where people who believe in HIM will be persecuted but we will perservere and eventually win with the GRACE of GOD.

I believe God has reason why you become successful as a boxer and having a mom who is a God fearing person. All the time media show people who brags about their success but never showed any respect or gave thanks to somebody HIGHER than anybody on earth but you openly showed your belief in GOD. I believe you are being used as an instrument of GOD to impart to the world that you are not ashamed to show your belief and give thanks to GOD everytime you are in the ring. Take care of your family and our people. Stay away from corrupt political leaders because I do not want you to be dragged to their illegal dealings and way of life just to improve their financial standings.

i’ve never heard manny trash talk to promote a fight. he is fighting bradley, i believe he is not gay. theres no reason for manny to speak up against the gay community. a lot of people are against gay marriage some more influential than him like romney, theres a big chance of him becoming the next president maybe the gay community should focus on him more. i dont know just an idea…i bet you wont hear romney apologizing, what if he becomes president and decides to introduce a bill to outlaw gay marriage what then.

Comment by aaron — May 17, 2012 @ 8:15 pm

the good thing about an opinion is that it’s just that…neither has to be explained or defended..the gay community if you call it that would look at it as another challenge to their ideals but understand your position…we don’t have to like anything, and we have the right to express that, freedom of speech gives you that right..and manny you didn’t slander anyone or make hateful remarks, simply put you don’t support something, that your not in to..shit i’m totally not for gay marriage but that doesn’t mean that it’ll stop or never take place because i don’t agree with it…but i won’t use religion or it’s position as a shield for what i believe in or feel strongly about…not everyone has beliefs in an organized religion or it’s ideals, you can believe in God without his church, that’s what makes religion perfect, it has nothing to do with anyone but you and your God…so manny keep your beliefs, and feel the way you do about the things in the world, but when you say something, stand behind your words and accept the criticism back that you would expect everyone else to accept in kind…it’s a give and take world, so if we dish it, we must be willing to take it in return..that’s what opinions are all about..

Comment by nurselibra — May 17, 2012 @ 8:58 pm

Manny, what lame excuse…you are a bigot and an idiot! Many people may support your position, but do not judge others…look in the mirror first and see it crack right in front of your dumb ass! I was very proud of you and supported you since your first international fight.

Look back where you came from…limelight and money lost your heart and soul. You are one “phony” person…you can’t buy happiness and equal rights…Manny. CIVIL rights is in question here, and it does not/will not compromise your religious belief. Oh I forgot, you do not know the difference! I hope your supporters leave you. You have lost sight of reason.

Comment by Kristy — May 18, 2012 @ 1:48 am

I agree that you should not apologize. God’s words do not need defending and his word will never change. Christians need to stick together.

Comment by debit — May 18, 2012 @ 2:04 am

May God’s Words be in your heart all the days of your life. God has said that His Word abides forever and Jesus said that “heaven and earth will pass away but [His] words will never pass away” (Matt 24:35

You are right when you say let us rely on Scripture when we are defining marriage. Neither should we depend upon human opinions, liberal theologians, sociologists, modern philosophies or on new state laws and constitutions. God’s law are a higher moral standard than that of mankind and even governments and states.

Since the Bible is the Word of God, we must believe what it says and we care not that it’s not popular because it’s more important to believe what God says than what humans think.

If someone doesn’t like what the Bible says on this issue, which is what real Christian used, then they are upset at the wrong person. We are not judging or condemning them. God is judge. We also sin but we also repent and try our best to stop that sin. When we sin, we confess it and ask God to empower us to stop sinning by the power of the Holy Spirit. I John 1:8 says we all sin…but 1 John 1:9 then goes on to say we must confess these sins…and only THEN will God forgive us.

Don’t be discouraged, God is with you. You are in our prayers.

Comment by Philia — May 18, 2012 @ 2:24 am

I love how he has “nothing to apologize for since he is a Christian.” As if being a Christian automatically excuses or justifies any wrong doing.

Comment by Dru — May 18, 2012 @ 3:42 am

Thanks Manny. I am a gay man who supports you and follows Gods. At one point many believed that the bible supported slavery and was against women’s rights, and interracial marriage. As times change so do perceptions.

Comment by Koa — May 18, 2012 @ 4:38 am

Again, we see how name calling and intimidation are used to control people who do not agree with you. Manny is now banned from a mall just for speaking his mind. Uncalled for. Who are the truly intolerant ones? Manny, you spoke your mind, I applaud you. The most you should have done was clarify your comment and that was it. No apology should have passed your lips. You did nothing wrong to apologize for. These folks will never accept your apology anyways. Stick to your values against all odds.

Comment by Steven — May 18, 2012 @ 5:06 am

It is Leviticus 18:22, which reads: “You shall not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, it is
abomination . Love is everything without it you could never get close to God.a homosexual act is not the person it is a sin and that is what we shouldnt like. society tell you that you were born gay but you were not God created man and woman.God love you and we love you too, repent in the name of Jesus and you will be free from the lies of the devil. Jesus will set you free. I love you all.

Comment by Nan — May 18, 2012 @ 5:53 am

Mr. Pacquiao, your apology is specious at best. Would you say you like black people but you still don’t think they deserve basic human rights like marriage? Would you say you like women but they don’t deserve basic human rights, like equality in marriage? There was a time when African Americans were forbidden to marry outside their race and when women were considered property. Those rights were hard-won in the face of bible thumping men who, I might point out, “translated” your bible too many times with too many agendas to even find the actual word of God anymore.

You yourself are not exactly mainstream ethnically - you are an immigrant. Would you accept second class citizenry and restriction of your civil rights because you are not what is considered fully American? Naturalized is not “natural born”, now is it?

How you can discriminate against ANYONE and expect to survive yourself is frankly a little egotistical of you. Your exclusionary attitude would make Jesus Christ very unhappy - He included everyone (except the moneychangers - so cogent even today). Love thy neighbor as thyself - even if thy neighbor is gay, a woman or an immigrant. Look into your soul and find the truth of life on this planet. This nation needs to go back to inclusion and equality - full and unfettered.

Discrimination is NEVER right - or Christian.

You do not hate anybody, and you do NOT need to apologize.

The TRUTH will set you free, and the TRUTH will set the gays free.
Government & your apology will NEVER set someone free. Never.

Comment by Bill Rodley — May 18, 2012 @ 8:38 am

Manny,

As I recall it was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Marriage is a sacred religious institution that is being pillaged by the left for selfish personal issues. Is there not irony in the fact that those who proclaim to be so “open minded” can not accept those of us who do not believe in something? They call us haters, ban us from the public square, and force acceptance with threats. They want to steal and pervert the institution of marriage and force us to change our faith and beliefs.
Natural Law is Natural Law regardless of religious beliefs. Humanity requires man and woman to procreate. End of story. As for the person who compared immigrants to homosexuals, give us a break! There is no comparison!

Comment by Jerry Arispi — May 18, 2012 @ 11:24 am

You cant love gay people and deny them their rights. You cant love anyone and ask them to accept 2nd class citizenship. Your positions is a bigoted position period!

Comment by BrianO — May 18, 2012 @ 12:15 pm

Gay people need to remember that they choose to be gay. Drug addicts choose to do the drugs that turn them into being addicts. I’m a Catholic by choice, however, my race was chosen by god. Race and someone’s sexual preferences are totally two different subjects. And just like drug addicts there are places and people to help you. Being a loud minority group, by choice, shouldn’t allow you to receive any special treatment. And give God a good prayer that you and many like you were born in this great country and not in Iran. And yes I believe marriage is special, I’ll have 30 years with my lovely wife this August. God bless all of us!

Comment by God — May 18, 2012 @ 1:12 pm

So much hate, ignorance and bigotry here. The “people of God” have clearly spoken, and they are calling for the death of gay people. Wow. What these blind, deaf and dumb people don’t realize is they are speaking the words of the Anti-Christ, not the word of God or Jesus. You are the ones who will eventually go to Hell for the hatred and bigotry you hold in your heart and spread across God’s land. Gay people are God’s creation. You are calling for some of God’s creations to be hated and murdered. How incredibly shameful you all are in the eyes of God.

Comment by JAY — May 18, 2012 @ 5:43 pm

He realized after what he said, “His mouth wrote a check that his ass can’t cash”. The potential of losing a lot of fan base support could reap deep consequences thus hurt his credibility and proceeds($$$$) in up coming fights.

Comment by Jaymz — May 18, 2012 @ 6:19 pm

A few days later and you people still can’t get over it? he didn’t say all gay people should die, He said he’s against gay people getting married. It’s his opinion, sensitive bunch you gays are.

Comment by Hassan — May 19, 2012 @ 11:52 am

Manny you were honest saying this, but this world is not looking for brave heart or honest people. need freak people. Remember, you came here to make money , entertaining us and live in rest. Above of all, you started to understand something wrong is in bible; Someone that who wrote this should be responsible not God ,not you. Being Sodomy is a bad sin, but gays and lesbians have chosen this way. They didn’t kill anybody to be killed, man. If you are honest with yourself, just be away from them. If you are reading the bible, you see someone, whoever, is talking about God, not exactly God. Gays and Lesbians are like us; They just chose Hell and you cannot change their way before they want to.

Comment by Roux Lucitt — May 22, 2012 @ 8:21 am

Manny ur an idiot!! Kick me and then say “oops sorrrry” HELL NO!! Your “Selective” reading of the Bible is nausiating! YOU and not Obama need to READ the Bible. Which in my opinion was nothing more than “rules” made up by the ppl OF THE TIME!. If you want to argue this fact, please explain to me how appropriate it would be to STONE your kids to death when they are disobedient!!? Back to the Bible.. Let’s look at Abominations in the Bible: it’s an abomination to eat shellfish (Down goes all the Mainiacs from Maine), it’s an abomination to wear close made from different fabrics (100% cotton or HELL!!), it’s an abomination to grow two different crops in the same field (whoop there goes all the Republican farmers!!), it’s an abomination to marry the same person twice!! (yup Liz Taylor would have been on this list!!), it’s an abomination for a woman to wear “men’s clothing”… So ladies if you are planning in stepping out in anything other than the traditional clothing of the time which would include covering your head, face.. (Yup its more like what the traditional Moslems wear now)…..dont even think about pants!!! orrrrrr it’s off to hell you go!! (The bible does say that we can own slaves from neighboring countries so I think I’ll go pick a Canadian to do my housework!)
I could go on forever quoting the Bible but most ppl who will read this do it with hate in their hearts and refuse to admit the FACTS: You can’t “select” which abomination you want to use to discriminate/hate others! Get with the times!! The “abomination” of “a man laying with another man yada yada yada… is as outdated as the abomination banning eating shellfish!!! ALL abomination or nothing!! You can’t “select” which abomination you want to use to discriminate/hate others! Get with the times!! The “abomination” of homosexuality is as outdated as the abomination banning eating shellfish!!!! As for you Manny.. Close the hole under your nose and climb into the ring.. Just because u have an opinion does not mean u have to air it!!

PS. BTW the Bible does not say a single thing about lesbians!!! So it should be perfectly fine for us to get married!!??

Comment by Roux Lucitt is an idiot — June 10, 2012 @ 12:45 am

Manny was only asked of his opinion. Just because of that makes him an idiot?
