Manny Pacquiao’s Greatest Fights: Part 1

Carl Guevara

When I first read the above quote from Thomas Jefferson, I suddenly realized that there are many things more spectacular other than winning. If I were to choose the greatest victory of Manny Pacquiao’s legendary career, it would have to be the first and loss against Erik Morales.

In another spectacular performance, Manny Pacquiao wowed his hometown crowd by delivering a 4th round KO victory via a swooping left uppercut against Thailand’s Fahsan Por Thawatchai. This fight was to prepare Pacquiao for his upcoming super fight because Freddie Roach knew the caliber of the Continue reading “Manny Pacquiao’s Greatest Fights: Part 1” »

How Pacquiao’s different from Past Crossover Boxing Stars

Last week Manny Pacquiao went to New York City and visited the Daily News, and then traveled to Washington D.C. to meet President Obama at the White house. These stops are in part due to the promotion of his upcoming welterweight title bout with former three division champ Shane Mosley. Like Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson and Oscar De La Hoya, Pacquiao has become a superstar and major presence on the world stage and once again, a pugilist has taken America by storm. Pacquiao’s fights are events and more than just boxing fans look forward to watching him fight. Which also was the case with Continue reading “How Pacquiao’s different from Past Crossover Boxing Stars” »

Nonito Donaire: The Next Manny Pacquiao

By Gina L. Caliboso

This past Saturday night, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, 26-1, 18 KO’s, knocked out Fernando Montiel, 44-3-2, 34 KO’s, in a stunning 2nd round KO that left the Mexican fighter twitching on the ground.

From Round 1, Donaire established dominance with a beautiful left hook and later followed up with a well-timed left hook yet again in the 2nd round. I was expecting the fight to extend into the later rounds but the KO just further established Donaire’s position as the number one ranked bantamweight in Continue reading “Nonito Donaire: The Next Manny Pacquiao” »

“The goal is to see him as president of the Philippines.” - Bob Arum on Pacquiao

Chris Robinson

After forty-plus years in the game there seems to be very little that would throw off Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. This past weekend the veteran promoter could be seen making the rounds in Las Vegas for the Fernando Montiel-Nonito Donaire event at the Mandalay Bay and it was business as usual for Arum.

While at Saturday’s press luncheon inside of Lupos, an Italian restaurant, I was able to catch up with Arum for a telling five minutes. Then just mere hours away from the Continue reading ““The goal is to see him as president of the Philippines.” - Bob Arum on Pacquiao” »

THE NEW GOLDEN AGE OF PHILIPPINE BOXING – PACQUIAO AND DONAIRE LEAD THE WAY

By Butch Romero

It was September 10, 2005. On that night, Manny Pacquiao, already one of the top fighters at that time, had just stopped Hector Velazquez and was preparing for his upcoming rematch with Eric Morales. Earlier that evening, Filipinos Rey Bautista and Brian Viloria had scored brutal knockouts of their opponents as well, with Viloria picking up his first world title and Bautista announcing himself to the world as a bright prospect. It was a glorious moment for Philippine Boxing, and many felt it was the start of a new golden era. But the feeling was fleeting and never quite Continue reading “THE NEW GOLDEN AGE OF PHILIPPINE BOXING – PACQUIAO AND DONAIRE LEAD THE WAY” »

A quick chat with Timothy James

Timothy James, the co-writer of Pacman: My Story of Hope, Resilience, and Never-Say-Never Determination, shares with me the process of how the book was created and how it was like working with the King of the Ring.

How was the process like, working with Manny Pacquiao? Manny Pacquiao has the same style outside the ring as he does inside the ring. It is an in and out movement, side to side. Manny Pacquiao does not beat to your drum. If you want to run with the Pacman then you have to learn his rhythm. He is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. Manny Pacquiao is so “non-confrontational” outside the ring; it is almost impossible to believe he is a Continue reading “A quick chat with Timothy James” »

Manny Pacquiao’s impact reminiscent of Muhammad Ali

Manny Pacquiao’s career and impact inside and outside of the boxing ring is being likened to that made by Muhammad Ali because the two great champions have transcended their sport more than any other in boxing history.

Underdog Boxing: Please leave Alex Ariza alone

Alex Ariza is an integral part of Manny Pacquiao’s success. Much of the credit must still be given to Pacquiao and head trainer Freddie Roach, but Ariza deserves some props for the work he has done with Pacquiao.

Ariza was brought in just before the rematch against Juan Manuel Marquez to treat Pacquiao’s shoulder, but it became a full-time gig soon after, as both Roach and Pacquiao were pleased with the results. Shane Mosley says he’s doing Floyd Mayweather’s dirty work by fighting Manny Pacquiao

BY KEITH IDEC

NEW YORK — Shane Mosley swears he wasn’t offended when oddsmakers installed Manny Pacquiao as a 7-1 favorite in their May 7 welterweight title fight in Las Vegas.

“I [couldn’t] care less,” Mosley said after a news conference Monday to promote the pay-per-view fight. “I just figure somebody’s going to get rich.”

Betting on Mosley might be more tempting to Las Vegas gamblers if he wasn’t coming off back-to-back suspect performances against Sergio Mora and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The former three-division champion drew with Mora on Sept. 18 in Los Angeles, four months after failing to capitalize on hurting Continue reading “Shane Mosley says he’s doing Floyd Mayweather’s dirty work by fighting Manny Pacquiao” »

Pacquiao, Roach, and Ariza matter - The rest are blowhard clowns

Brad Cooney

It’s simply amazing to me to see how some of the people that surround Manny Pacquiao lack self security.  The insecurities of a few of those who eat the crumbs that Manny drops are comical to me.  There are three main people that matter in the world of Pacquiao, and they are Manny, Freddie Roach, and Alex Ariza.  Beneath those names, there are a few other people that do matter, but not as much.  Buboy, a long time friend of Manny matters.  A few others here and there matter, but for the most part it’s Manny, Freddie, and Ariza.

Managers, advisers, other so called assistants are all a bunch of bottom feeders that look for Freddie and Manny crumbs to eat off of the floor.  Why the heck anyone would want to get rid of Alex Ariza is beyond me.  Ariza is one of the best thing that has ever happened to Manny Pacquiao.  The only reason someone would want to get rid of him is because they are insecure and they feel threatened by Ariza and Pacquiao’s friendship.  A sorry and pathetic way to live Continue reading “Pacquiao, Roach, and Ariza matter - The rest are blowhard clowns” »
