WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 ko’s) is favored over his much younger opponent Chad “Bad” Dawson (29-1, 17ko’s), who is the former WBC, IBF, and IBO light heavyweight champion.
This was revealed in an online poll conducted by RingTV as of October 14 where 49% of the respondents say Hopkins will win by decision. A low 27% of the respondents say Dawson will win by decision.
The poll says 13% of the respondents believes Dawson will win by knockout while about 9% say Hopkins will win via knockout. Only about 2.6% says it is going to be a draw.
Hopkins is fresh from his victory over Jean Pascal via a unanimous decision last May 21 in Montreal Canada where he snatched the Ring and WBC light heavyweight championship belt.
Since losing to Joe Calzaghe in 2008, Hopkins has fought five times winning four with a draw against Pascal last year. In a return bout Hopkins won a unanimous decision against Pascal.
Hopkins is the oldest boxer to ever win a world title at age 46 and is considered on of the greatest middleweight champions of all time.
Dawson, who is a southpaw, can be dangerous especially for an aging fighter like Hopkins. Dawson has good 60% knockout average and has lost only once in his professional career.
Dawson’s only loss was against Jean Pascal in August of last year via 11th round technical decision due to accidental headbutt.
The highly anticipated light heavyweight bout will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California Saturday.
Fight undercard lineup includes Manny Pacquiao’s sparring partner Jeorge Linares vs. Antonio DeMarco for a lightweight championship bout, Danny Garcia vs. Kendal Holt, another lightweight bout and a welterweight bout between Paulie Malignaggi and Orlando Lora.
