You guys are bombarding with me with comments and questions and I love it.

It is never easy to start something you have never done before. Writing a blog is something I have never done before. When Timothy James asked me to write for Manny Pacquiao’s Official Website I thought he was crazy. I almost smacked him. I heard that dude was crazy, so he was just proving to be what I heard. The past two days I have read all your feed back, comments, and questions I am now understanding why I am doing this.

Luckily Tim took his time and explained to me what this blog would be. This blog is about what I know, so I do feel some level of comfort. I have never written out what I do for anyone. I may not even explain it much to my fighters. I am more of an action person and tell them, “Just Do It.” Thank God they trust me and for the most part they do it.

Nutrition, working out, and helping people get better results in their activity is a passion of mine. To see people become healthier and happier and watch the change is incredible. Of course when you mix this knowledge with the most watched man in sports and incredible things begin to happen at the same time,  everything suddenly is put under a microscope, and is being subjected to numerous different opinions. After Tim and I spoke, I realized this was my chance to let the magic trick be known to the public. When everyone learns the truth about what we are doing they would realize there is no magic trick. There is no secret potion. It is just doing things the right way. Doing everything correctly.

In agreeing to write this blog it is my hope that I will show there is rhyme and reason to what we are doing and when applied correctly you too could achieve much greater heights in all your activities. The chances are you are like most other people. You are doing some sort of a program with only part of the ingredients to success, or even worse, you may not have any ingredients at all.

So it is my job to teach people what the ingredients are to help you maximize your health, your fitness, and your overall growth in any physical activity you are trying to accomplish.

We have spoke very briefly on what Nutrition is, what certain vitamins and amino acids are, and we have touched on what they can do for the body.

Today we are going to talk about your bodies effects, your bodies reactions, and what your body goes through.

Here is the thought of the day; “What is the reaction going to be, regarding everything we do.”

We do not want to be surprised by a reaction. We do not want to guess what that reaction will be. We want to know. We Have To Know.

The ONLY thing that determines a reaction is an action.  An action causes a reaction. There is nothing anyone can do to change that. However, that being said,  A pro-action can dictate your action, which will inevitably determine what your reaction will be.

Point being, we need to understand what we are doing, make the best decision possible, so we will have the best outcome. Simply put: If you fail to prepare you are preparing to fail.

That is the reason I am doing some teaching, before I ever send anyone out to go and buy any supplement to put in their body.

I hear you guys asking me about this and that in the comment section.  You want to know what supplements we take and what is the name brand of the supplements we take. I am sorry, but you will just have to wait a week or so. I will not answer questions until I create enough knowledge in you that I feel comfortable with you spending your hard earned dollars on something I send you to go buy. I do not want you guys going out and buying some L-Glutamine mixed with L- Arganine and wonder why you are not seeing the effects that I predermined you would get.

If you do not understand why and when to take things you will just waist your money. There is method to my madness, so please learn as I teach you some things.  This will help later when I explain certain terms or use certain words.

You see the only way to really know what to do when you are trying to become stronger and faster is to know your body and how things will effect your body. Most people do not know their bodies. That is why a personal trainer comes into play. If you have a good personal trainer they will watch you and be able to make out the decisions that need to be made. A good personal trainer will know precisely when to adjust caloric intake, adjust carbohydrate intake, change carbs based on how fast they burn in your body, what sorts of proteins will work best, fats, supplements, cardio, workout programs etc.

When I am training Manny Pacquiao I have to watch him everyday. When I am watching Manny, I watch everything. I mean I am watching everything!!!

I am watching his moods, is he happy, playing, tired, stressed, or maybe irritable. You see those are clues to what is going on inside. Inside the body where we can not see.

Those clues are telling me that Manny’s metabolism has changed and I need to adequately change with it.  The key is to be able to adapt and adjust to everything happening around me. Let me tell you training in Los Angeles is totally different the training in Bagiuo because of the humidity factor. Every day I have to decide on what is the best food, what should we do based on what, and what will maximize the champs ability to progress.

When I am writing this blog I can not be there for you to actually see you every day and make changes for you. The truth is it will take you some time to learn your body and learn what adjustments to make. That is why I am taking my time and teaching you the fundamentals of what works.

Today’s lesson plan: growing muscle and staying away from your body eating away at itself.

Did you know your body will eat it’s own muscle tissue just to produce energy? It is called being in a “Catabolic State”. Before I get into that, I want to make sure we understand something.

When we go in the gym to train, or go on a run, we are not building muscle. We are breaking down muscle. We are actually tearing it, basically we are injuring it. I guess that is why it hurts so bad. People think we grow when we are in the gym or working out. We don’t. We only grow and heal when we are resting or sleeping.

Your body is supposed to do it’s repair work when you are sleeping. Your body senses there is an injury and works hard to repair it. Muscles have the ability to grow bigger every time they are being repaired. They will grow if they have the proper nutrition or nutrients.

The first two topics we are going to discuss is Anabolism and Catabolism

Anabolism And Catabolism: Basically this is, Chemical processes of the body, which may be divided into two phases. Anabolism refers to chemical processes which are constructive, or synthesizing of body tissues, enzymes and other body components. Catabolism generally refers to those processes in which body tissues and components are breaking down into simpler metabolic constituents.
These two processes always coexist, and we need them to coexist.  You can not have Anabolism without Catabolism. although one may dominate at times over the other. For example, at night during sleep, anabolic processes tend to dominate and this is where the healing and growth will take place. Catabolism tends to dominate during the day. If we go to bed and our body is in a Catabolic State we are not going to rebuild what we broke down during our workout. We are just continuing to breakdown our muscles, breakdown our energy, basically making us weaker everyday. Even though we are working out thinking we are doing it to become stronger and healthier, we are actually becoming weaker.

Most boxers do not eat properly, sleep properly, exercise properly, or put the proper nutrients in them. When they go to sleep they are completely backwards with the way the body was designed to work. They are actually creating the body to eat off itself. Where does it eat first? The muscle tissue.

Most boxers and MMA athletes are cutting down to make weight, so they are losing weight. What is their answer? Cut down on food intake. That is the wrong answer. That is not the correct thing to do. There are ways to drop your body weight, but build muscle and energy at the same time.

Let’s give you a scenerio: Who is going to win the fight; Fighter A or Fighter B?

Fighter A did everything the correct way and went to sleep every night building muscle tissue and creating even more energy for tomorrow.

Fighter B went to bed every night in a catabolic state and even though he trained just as hard, continued to get weaker everyday because he was focused on cutting weight.

I teach fighters to be Fighters A

We go to battle against Fighters B-

I am not getting cocky when I say this, but I am undefeated with Freddie Roach in the ring. My fighters are 100% ready, because everyday we have grown stronger, we have created more energy, and when we step in the ring with the opponent we are in the physical condition to destroy him.

Now when you add this with a trainer as brilliant as Freddie Roach the results speak for themselves.

Now I want to say something, so I am never misquoted. The fighters I work with, as well as Freddie Roach are a league unto their own. I am just adding to what they already have. I am trying to contribute to their success.

Now of course when you take Manny Pacquiao who already had the talent, who already had the gifts that his God bestowed upon him and you put him in an anabolic state when he sleeps at night (this being done with proper nutrition and FDA approved supplementation) the results speak for themselves.  The last three years of Manny’s career is the first time he actually went to bed completely 100% in a state of repair, instead of  continuing to break down from the days workouts.

You have all witnessed the destruction of his opponents. You have witnessed that talent mixed with ability can over come anything.

It is very difficult to be able to do something if your body is telling you no.

My fighters bodies tell them Yes. And my fighters go in there and kick every other fighters ASS.

So what I want you to get out of this segment is there is going to be a lot of teaching regarding putting your body in an Anabolic State at the correct time and how to do that with proper nutrition, how not to over train, and yes, we are going to go over the proper supplementation, including name brand, dosage etc.. All in time. Be patient. I still have six more weeks to write.

By the way, we are in Manila right now. We had a great two weeks of training and I want you to keep up with the training on the website. Watch the videos. Tell all your friends to come to the site every day and Give Manny Pacquiao your support. He deserves it!

It’s so great of you to take the time to do this blog I’m finding it very interesting to do I have a few questions I would like to ask you ? first of all I’m a 28 year old white male based in Thailand I’m original from Manchester England I have now been living here in Thailand for a number of years now? I’m around 15 stone / 100kg would like to lose 20kg /4 stone what ideas could you give me first of all to lose this weight after this I would like to starting going back to gym also every morning I will be starting running again for 2 hours … also would just like to say thank for taking the time to reading this email…

Hey Alex. . I play in a band called SOLIDAZ. .we are all kiwi’s and we were playing in shangri-la hotel Makati a few years ago. We arrived on the day Manny fought David Diaz, we had never heard of MP before then but our whole band became HUGE fans ( and I mean HUGE fans) during our 6 months of playing in Shangri-la and shared in the joy of ALL Philippino’s the day he fought Oscar. We travel all over Asia playing in 5 star hotels and are now currently performing in Beijing , China and the one thing , especially from Americans that we hear are the constant steroid allegations. From what I have seen , I believe with all my heart that Manny doesn’t and never would ever touch such a thing, my question is ,do these allegations still bother you or are you just over it? Is there a way this can ever go away ?

Hey Alex,
It’s really cool what you’re doing with this blog (and the website as a whole looks great!). I’m a boxing fan in New Zealand, and as well as watching the sport, I try to keep in shape and do a bit of friendly boxing. I’m vegan which means I’m very interested in nutrition and I’m always keen to learn from the experts. I know that with my dietary restrictions I’m on the back foot when it comes to intensive training, but the more I learn about nutrition, the less of an issue it is. I seem to be in good general health at least (my colleagues at work get colds and flus quite often but I don’t seem to catch them).
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to write your blog. It’s much appreciated

Great post! I was dying when i read the part on how you almost smacked Timothy Johnson.

It reminded me when i heard how you gave knocz a three or was it a four it combo.

I thought i knew a lot about nutrition but coming here really opens my eyes.

This was a terrific post and i have to ask questions.

Right now i’m in good shape i’m trying to get more lean though. At night i’ll a high intensity workout after. After the workout my body is hungry i just take an isolate protein shake with no carbs and or fat. Does this leave me in an anabolic state?

Do i need carbs after a workout like that to help heal my body for when i go to bed? Won’t i gain weight if i do eat something like whole wheat pasta bc the carbs are really high?

It seems everything little thing such as mood and stress attributes to overall optimal health. Most people think it’s just food and gym, thanks for the knowledge.

I’ve been checking out the videos, they are great. Timothy Johnson did a great job with the website.

Thank you for all of your work and great job you do here , now i start to realise what was wrong with me and my body..
few months ago , actually 5 months ago i had to fight ( kickboxing )
but because my body couldn’t handle i just had to stop for few months..
i did some big mistakes , especially sleeping time, as i work everynight and i do not sleep at night , only day time and i was training 4 hrs daily training , after night shift job i was going right into the gym and train for 4 hrs intensive so one day when i was going home i just almost lost my balance and was about to pass out , then is when i realise something id id wrong…fist of all is the job i have and not getting rest enough..scond was my diet , i was eating only 3 times a day( once in the morning before training, after trainin and once at night while i was working )
anyway my diet wasn’t good because of all this wrong diet i had and training i had to stop..i was feeling like is no power in me no hunger to fight like inside weekness , as i dnt have and dnt afford a nutritionist as many fighters i had to go trough all this ..
i have started since 2 months a detox program wich is for 3 months , natural detox program and i have to say i feel much better and now with your information and amazing way of explaining thigs i think it would help me a lot more as i plan in going back to training and never stop and never do the same mistake about sleeping and diet again .
i was feeling pain in my hands or eyes or legs like some needles and felt so dizzy but now since i do detox program and eat much healthier all of them are gone , you’re so right about nutrition and i like the way you explain things .
i can’t wait to finish the detox program and to go back in training.
Like you said nutrition has to do with your moods and feelings too, i felt it on my own when i had no trust in myself that i can even go to 10 mins of training back in the gym , is like i was freaking out inside , now it is all good and hope it will get better .
i will keep fallowing your blog Alex coz i have so much to learn from this and it is a great work that you do for Team Pacquiao and for us as fans .

regarding the article from Jony- the long one regarding dizziness. Yes sir I read it. First off, if you are ever feeling that dizzy you should really consult a Dr immediately. There are numerous serious health issues that dizziness is a strong symptom. It sounds to me like you over trained and under ate and slept, which will also cause everything that you felt. That being said, I would have recommended going to see a Dr. Immediately. I do not know how I feel about the detox. especially in your condition. Again I would consult a Dr about that too. What I will say is this, “In the future understand Life and balance go hand in hand.” Balance is the key to life. You way over trained. I would like to give you a compliment that you have the heart of a champion to get yourself to that level of almost dying, because most people would have quit a lot earlier in the process, but having the heart of the champion will just be wasted if you do not give that heart a chance. The chance it deserves to feel victory. Relax keep reading. Education and knowledge, mixed with wisdom can lead to greatness and that is something that can never be taken from you. Now go eat, drink some water, and sleep for about a month! LOL, but I still recommend to go to the Dr.

To Rob the Vegan. I like people like you the most! It leaves more steak for me!! Haha, just kidding. You are fine. If it makes you mentally stronger then just get your proteins from lentils, soy, and numerous other food products that carry protein and are iron rich. Take multi-vitamins or vitamin packs. Listen to your body. Learn all you can and you will feel great. Not as good as I feel when I am eating a porterhouse, but you will feel good!

Kristen. I just wrote an article for you. I posted it in my blog section. When people are guilty they usually get defensive. It is hard to get MP to take a friggen vitamin. LOL. He is the most honorable person I have ever met. It is ignorant people that can think what they want. We know the truth and we are enjoying our victory while we continue to get better. We can not change the way others think, so it would be a waste of time to focus on it. I will look for your band. Are you on Facebook?

We are a 7 piece band from NZ and we are all big fans.Not just because of the boxing but because from living in Manilla just for 6 months we saw what Manny gives to the Phillipino people. He makes them proud and lifts up the spirit of the whole country. . This website is going to be HUGE because you guys are offering MP fans not only an amazing insight into your circle but also the opportunity to be interactive . . Amazing job guys.
